I was lucky enough to snag a Vinland Tomahawk over a year before writing this review. To be honest, I liked the look but doubted that a contemporary, custom tomahawk/hatchet could hang with my vintage and Scandinavian axes when it came to real woods work. I was dead wrong. This little axe has been my right hand around camp since the first day I used it to fell a 5″ yellow birch (dead standing). I’ve used to rough out carving projects, split wood for the fire, carve notches in structural wood for camp construction, even thrown it to blow off some steam. The Vinalnd throws chips and is that perfect tweener size between a belt hatchet and a forest axe. This, in my opinion makes it a great companion for overnighters, or trips where carrying a larger axe is impractical. I can always find room in my pack for this little bugger.
